Codex Seraphinianus Volume 1, Part 2 : Fauna

The animals described in the Codex range from miniscule single celled organisms, to insects, fish, reptiles, birds and mammals, however that is about all the similarity there is with what we know from our planet.

For example whereas on Earth light is made up of particles called Photons, it appears that light on the Codex's planet is in fact comprised of thousands of different single celled organisms.

Other animals are most unearthly, such as a group of similar looking animals that appear to have mechanical parts (one has wheels, another some kind of drill in its tail, and the third appears to have what looks like the end part of a key attached.)

Another page shows a species of insect that appear at first glance to be ladybirds, but seem to grow from an amorphus jelly like ring of red goo around the branches of trees, emerging fully grown.

From there, things really go off the wall with diagrams appearing to show various animals in enclosures (some kind of zoo?) Most of these creatures are very peculiar to say the least!
